Think again.

A dog with a note in its mouth could make more sales than you.

A HUGE problem with so many network marketers is that they get out there and start explaining their opportunity to everyone. Then what happens? They get questions. Then what do they do? Uh, Um, and they start spewing all kinds of crap!

Ever hear the old saying “a confused mind always says no”?

If you start explaining everything you just confuse people, and they’re bound to say no.

But there are a couple of other problems with this “strategy” too:

1) It’s intimidating. People don’t want to think they will have to do all this explaining if they join, so they don’t join — it seems like waaaayyyyy too much work.

2) It’s wwaaaayyyyy too much work! Talk about disheartening, fatiguing, and dream-crushing! You’ll be spending HOURS on the phone (or on facebook, in person, whatever you’re doing) talking to people and getting no results. So what will you do? You’ll quit. You’ll assume everybody was lying to you about all the success they were having, that “this stuff doesn’t work — I knew it”, and that’ll be the end of that. So sad — you were almost there.

So what should you do instead?

Be just like that dog with the note in its mouth…

Go find people, in any way you like to find them, (our team can teach you a thousand and one ways to find people — that isn’t a problem) and invite them to a presentation. That’s it!

When the presentation is over, just ask these simple questions:

1) How did you feel about what you saw?
2) What did you like?
3) How would you build the business?
4) And how serious are you?

Did you see any room there for people to start asking you a bunch of questions? Nope. And if they do start asking questions, then a) you’re not controlling the conversation — you should work on that, and b) invite them on a 3-way call or to take a look at additional information. (Notice that word ‘invite’ again.)

So please, if you want to make more sales, try being a little less ’super-salesman’ and a little more like a dog with a note in its mouth.

Article Marketing Pays in 3 Specific Ways

I know a lot of you have been putting off your article marketing, opting instead for pay-per-click, Craigslist, and the massive, time-sucking beast we like to call facebook.

But before you completely back-burner your article marketing strategy for tactics that seem to produce results more quickly, may I point out that article marketing pays off in multiple ways, and it doesn’t have to be extremely complicated.

1) Yes, you can get massive backlinks that will increase your site’s ranking and possibly get your site some natural search engine results for your targeted keywords. And when this happens, it is AWESOME! However, this is the reason a lot of people abandon their article marketing campaigns altogether. It’s complicated, you have to submit to a TON of article directories, rewriting your article for each one, (to avoid duplicate content issues with the search engines) and it’s difficult to find keywords that you know will bring results. (Still well worth doing, but it’s not the only game in town.)

2) If you post a well-written article to the better-known article directories, webmasters will grab that article for their own websites. This gives you access to their visitors, and of course backlinks too. Most webmasters take articles they know their readers will take an interest in, and they are required to keep your author information intact when they use your article. Sweet, right?

3) Last but certainly not least, if you write a GOOD, informative article and post it to one of the leading directories, you’ll actually have people reading your article because they want to know what you have to say! How about that? Without getting too particular about precise keywords, keyword density and all that technical stuff, you can get visitors to your website almost immediately. Write more articles, and you’ll get even more exposure.

So if you’ve been procrastinating about your article marketing campaign you can stop now. Just come up with an idea for an informative article for your target audience, write a decent article, and follow it with a compelling call to action in your author resource box and you’ll be all set. (Don’t worry – I’ll write another post that goes into detail about the author resource box and what to say.)

So I was watching the Home Shopping Network and…

they’re selling these coins:

That’s their “intro” price, which is $50 less than

Think You Have What It Takes To Work With Me?

Here’s what I’m looking for in a business partner:

  1. You have a REAL DESIRE to change your life.  One that’s strong enough to keep you going when you hit a detour.  One that’ll get you to turn off the TV an hour or two at night so you can work on your business.
  2. You want to at least triple your income.  I don’t care how much you make now, I’ve worked with people who’ve made minimum wage when they got started with me, and people who made high 6-figure incomes in their previous businesses.  It really doesn’t matter.  What does matter is that they want something “Big” for them.  Big for you might mean $40,000 a year working from home while spending time with your kids.  Believe me, I get that.  Or it might mean retiring with a multi-million dollar residual, passive annual income.  I get that too.  As long as it’s a goal that gets you excited, it works for me.  But I’ve found that if people don’t want at least 3x their current income, they’re not aiming high enough.
  3. You’re willing to work on yourself, and better yet, you enjoy it (or at least want it.)
  4. You’re willing to invest time and money into your business.  It doesn’t really take a lot of either, but you need to look at this as a business.  Businesses require an investment of time and a little money.
  5. You’re in this for the long haul.  If you’re thinking about “trying it out”, then please don’t contact me.  There are all kinds of people all over the internet who will gladly suck you into their businesses so you can try it out.  Not me.  I’m looking for people who are willing and able to COMMIT to success.  And trust me, if you go into it with that attitude, you WILL have success much more quickly.
  6. You have confidence in yourself.  One caveat here.  I know what it’s like to be down on your “luck”.  I’ve been there.  I was there for a long time.  From making a multiple 6-figure income, to facing foreclosure and bankruptcy.  At that time in my life, I didn’t feel very confident.  That’s part of why it took me so long to get over my “slump”.  If you’re in that situation, I can help you out of it.  We just need to focus on things that you DO feel confident about.   So if your confidence is low, that’s not a deal-breaker, but please make me aware of it when we talk, okay?

The wonderful thing about starting a home business, especially when you go the MLM or network marketing route, is that it takes very little upfront cash to get started.  And if you do it right, your ongoing monthly costs will be paid for by the very act of marketing your business, even the times when you aren’t succeeding with selling your actual MLM product or service.  (More about that in another post.)

But here’s the thing.  If you want to be massively successful, you can’t rely solely on chasing friends and family and physically attending marketing events.  That’s why so many MLM leaders are turning to the internet to expand their reach.  That’s great, but the problem is that most of them do it all wrong, or they don’t get properly set up with the right MLM tools and training to get started on the right track.

Unfortunately, most of them end up giving up because it’s too difficult to sort through all the garbage out there.  There are so many MLM tools and training resources being peddled on the internet that it just gets confusing – and extremely expensive.

The good news is that you really don’t need very many MLM tools to be successful – and I mean MASSIVELY successful.  The even better news is that the few tools you do need don’t cost much either.

Here are the must-haves.

1)    Your own domain name(s).  Do you really want “Usana.com/associates/john12345” on your business cards?  Of course not.  Besides, your domain name will last forever, even if your company goes out of business or changes its comp plan, or even if you just decide to market another company.  Cost:  $10-15 a year, give or take.

2)    A very good understanding of attraction marketing.  If you don’t get this concept, you might as well just close up shop and save yourself the frustration.  The course I recommend for this is less than $40 and will completely change your business.

3)    Your own blog.  This is too much to explain in this post, but for now, just know you have to have one.  Cost: Free to have, but you’ll want to self-host (I’ll explain why in that other post), which will cost you a few bucks a month.

4)    A customizable capture page and sales funnel system.  This is where you’ll direct most of your marketing to.  This is where you tell the world who you are, and what you can do for them.  A good MLM marketing system will include a way for you to quickly add your own stories, videos, pictures, and domain names.  You should be able to set up a fully customized capture page in less than 5 minutes.  Most importantly, you should have complete control over the leads that come in to your system.  (Some MLM lead systems actually force you to bring the leads into THEIR system, so they have control over what happens next with your prospects.  If you’re going to do that, you might as well just use your company replicated website, right?)  Cost:  The one I use is less than $50 a month, and it makes me thousands per month in commissions.  Well worth the price, wouldn’t you say?

5)    An autoresponder system.  Remember when I said you should have complete control over the leads that come into your system?  This tool is what allows you to keep in touch with your list.  Once you spend all that time and money to bring leads into your system, you need to be sure you’re getting the most from them.  Use your autoresponder system to deliver free training to your new prospects, and keep in touch about once a day.  The cost for the one I use is about $20 a month.

6)    Training and support on one or two preferred internet marketing methods.  Again, the details of this will have to be included in another article, but since this article is just about the tools you need, and how much they cost, know you can get all the training you need from inside the marketing system I mentioned earlier, for the same $50 a month.  They include training on all kinds of internet marketing, offline marketing, mindset, prospecting, you name it, it’s in there.  You really don’t need any more training than that to get started.

That’s it – all the basics for less than $100 a month, and if you do it the way I teach, you’ll be making more than that on just the prospects who say no to your opportunity, so it’s essentially free to get set up for real success.

Are you thinking about buying some MLM leads for your business? I hope this article will change your mind, or at least get you to strongly consider another option.

So… what’s so bad about buying leads? Let’s start with the obvious, then move on to some ah-hah’s you may not have previously thought about.

First, in most cases you’ll have no idea how these leads were generated. You don’t know what kind of income claims were made, if there was any specific type of business opportunity implied (health vs. travel vs. gardening tools.) 

To make matters worse, in many cases, the prospect was given some kind of incentive to sign up (free vacation, gas, groceries, whatever), and they didn’t even KNOW they were signing up to receive information about starting a home business. Have fun talking to those people!

Second, many of these lead companies sell the leads multiple times over, and then, to top it off, another lead company (or even some MLM leaders) will buy them in bulk and then sell them multiple times AGAIN.  These are the people who will scream, cuss you out, and threaten to sue you or find out where you live and stick that phone (somewhere we can’t really say here.) And can you really blame them? Especially if they were people who never wanted to own a home business in the first place.

Now that we’ve covered the obvious reasons not to buy MLM leads, let’s look at the less obvious. To do that, we’ll just reverse the discussion to consider why you SHOULD generate your own leads, okay?

What kind of business are you in? There are a lot of people out there these days selling various juices, healthy chocolate, or super duper vitamins. Another big one is a gold and silver coin collecting company, which is also an MLM.

Then of course there are the high-ticket, high cost of entry deals that cost $10k, $20k, or more to get into.   Do you think your best prospects might be different, depending on what your company sells?  Do you think “business opportunity seekers” are all looking for the same things? Of course not! Some people want to be in an MLM that they build up over time to create a lasting, residual income in a few years. Others need to replace a very solid 6-figure income like right now.

You know who your best prospects are. The MLM lead companies know where to find the most leads.

Finally, when you generate your own leads, you have the opportunity to automatically sift and sort them by level of interest and seriousness, AND you can also allow them to get the opportunity to know you a little better before you ever talk to them. If you’ve never had the experience of calling someone on the phone and having them say “Oh my God Joanne, I can’t believe you actually called!” or of someone calling you and giving you all the reasons you should let them join your business under you, let me tell you, you’re in for a real treat.

People who generate leads the way I teach rarely have phone fear that lasts more than a day or two. They actually have fun calling their leads, and they close a ton of people into their business.

But now, let me issue a disclaimer. If the ONLY way you’ll have people to talk to about your business is to buy MLM leads, then by all means do it. It’s better to talk to crappy leads than to nobody at all. (But you’d better have a pretty decent budget, or a reasonably high price-point on your product – otherwise the cost of the leads will literally EAT YOU ALIVE!)

You’re A Prepaid Legal Associate – Now What?

So you’ve just become a Prepaid Legal Associate, or maybe you’re in the process of considering starting a Prepaid Legal business of your own.  Congratulations!  I really do commend you for your efforts.  The first step toward success in anything in life is to just get started.

But what’s the second step?  And the third?  And what comes after that?

Being a Prepaid Legal Associate can absolutely give you the financial freedom you’re looking for.  The company has been around for a long time, they have excellent products, and they have very little competition.  So why is it that so many people become Prepaid Legal Associates, and never get anywhere?

Because they lack marketing training, that’s why.  They start their business, and they have no idea what to do next.  Like many MLM companies, Prepaid Legal does little to train their associates in marketing techniques.  So for those of you who need a jump-start, here are a few suggestions:

First, you have to identify your target market.  Once you’ve exhausted your warm market, (friends and family, and the list of 1,000 people they make you come up with), decide who you’ll focus on next.  Will it be your local neighborhood?  The Mall?  Doctors?  Dentists?  Small Business Owners?  People with criminal records?  You get the idea.

Now that you know WHO your target market is, consider what they need.  The problem with a lot of these MLM companies is that they focus on the features of their great products, their wonderful debt-free company, and that they have the “best compensation plan in the industry”.

Marketing 101 will tell you not to focus on the features, but to focus on the benefits those things will provide to the target market.  Nobody cares about the features.  They care about what’s in it for them.  You have to know what those things are, and then you have to get it across to your buyers.  Maybe you want to emphasize protection, or peace of mind, or the fact that they can save money which can then be used for other things.  Can you see why choosing your target market first was so important?  If you don’t have a specific group of people in mind, it’s very difficult to determine which benefits to emphasize.

Be somebody worth listening to.  This point should really be at number 1, but many of you would have stopped reading had I listed it there.  See, people, especially these days, are becoming extremely skeptical.  When you’re out there selling your product or your business opportunity, you’re also selling yourself.  In the case of the business opportunity, who YOU are is actually even more important than the company itself.  I’m sure you’ve heard it said over and over that people will buy from someone who they know, like, and trust.  How will they get to know you?  If they do get to know you , are you a likeable person?  Did you know there’s actually some science involved in being liked?  Learn how to be likeable and don’t bother with this business if you aren’t trustworthy.

Educate yourself.  Yes, you need to understand the compensation plan and the products, absolutely.  But the most important things a Prepaid Legal Associate does, the things that actually make them money, are marketing, selling, and supporting their team.  It’s the same in pretty much any business.  So become an expert in those things.  If you’ve just recently joined Prepaid Legal yourself, you know how intimidating it can be.  You know that once the excitement of the immense possibility wears off, you actually have work to do.  If you don’t know what to do, you turn to your upline.  Well, your new recruits need to be able to do the same thing.  If you’re building rapport with them to make the sale, or to bring them in to the organization, you are the one they’ll want to talk to when they need something.  So do your best to know the answers, or at least be able to point them in the right direction.
